How to Keep Cakes, Pastries and Bread Fresh at Home

Everything we bake is made fresh daily, and a little care at home keeps it tasting that way. Here are our simple storage tips for the treats you take home from Papaji Bakery.

Cream cakes and pastries

Anything with fresh cream belongs in the fridge. Keep it covered or in its box so it doesn’t pick up other smells, and enjoy it within a day or two. For the best flavour and texture, take it out about 20–30 minutes before serving.

Bread

  • Store loaves in a paper bag or bread box at room temperature — plastic can make the crust soft.
  • Keep bread out of direct sunlight and away from the stove.
  • If you won’t finish it in a couple of days, slice and freeze it, then toast straight from frozen.

Cookies and biscuits

Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature. Store crunchy and soft cookies separately so the crunchy ones stay crisp.

Brownies and dry cakes

Wrap them well or keep them in an airtight box. A few seconds in the microwave brings back that just-baked warmth.

A quick rule of thumb

When in doubt, cream goes in the fridge, and everything else goes in an airtight container. And of course, the freshest option is always to come back and see us — we bake every day.
